Mustad Bronze Slow Death Hooks - The Pro's Secret

A Perspective on Perfection
by Gary Parsons
National Freshwater Fishing Hall Of Fame Legendary Angler

In the mid-90s a close group of walleye pros were generating tremendous results with a new technique called slow death. Incredible action was being added to live-bait presentations by bending hooks in a certain fashion. I knew it was something special, but because I couldn't master the precise hook bend, I was getting really inconsistent results. Working with the Mustad product development team, Keith and I spend countless hours testing hook bends until we perfected a hook design that anybody could rig effectively.

we started using these with a threaded crawler inflated for cat fish and trout and we also use them with a cut piece of hot dog for the cats on a modified drop shot rig off the back of my house boat in 50 feet of water always lips hooks the cats and we get alot of monster carp

I'm gonna use them on the Columbia River for walleye starting in June.
Getting away from the traditional 2 hook worm harness to a single hook rig. See how
that works!:)

My primary use for these hooks is on "slow death walleye rig". Here's how I
rig it: bottom bouncer, snap swivel, leader with slow death hook, night
crawler for bait. Slow drift this rig along break lines and mud flats and
........ BOOM! Walleye!

Use them just like the instructions on the package. Thread a crawler on and cut it
off about a half inch past the end of the hook. They spin and catch walleye like
crazy. Need a good ball bearing swivel on your leader your leader gets all twisted
up

Thanks for the fast shipment! I fish walleye tournaments and use these hooks with a
night Crawler. The shape of the hook allows the crawler to spin at slow speeds.
Have a great day!

I troll with a bottom bouncer and this year I am making up a floating jig rig for
casting, so wish me luck.

I make my own tackle for perch and walleye. Using these for trolling
harnesses for eye's , Snell's for perch. I have ordered quite a few types
to try in 1 , 2, 4 and rigging for spring. Then will get more of what works
best. We tend to throw hooks away quite often rather then to sharpen. We
fish Lake Erie and them big eyes are tough. don't want line or hook failure.
And haven't seen any hooks come back to original sharpness and strength. We
fish 4 or more times a week and give them hard use. My buddy swears by
mustard. So we are testing the new ones. When your catching 10 lbs and
better fish
