My primary use for this particular hook is with live bait fishing. I have been using
this particular circle hook for about 6-7 years. By far, my favorite

These hooks will be used for surf fishing on Assateague Island, MD. Primary species
will be northern whiting, locally known as "kingfish" and, to a less degree, spot.
Kingfish are supposedly excellent table fare and spot are not far behind. But I am
seeking them for bait...the heads make excellent bait for red drum in the 40-60 lb
class and that is primarily the fish I seek. This fish was caught on a spot head.

The mustad ultra point circle hooks will be used for live bait fishing in Tampa Bay. Primary target species
are sea trout, redfish and snook. Other species include Spanish mackerel, flounder,
sheephead, and an occasional gag grouper.

I use the circle hooks for bass fishing. I live on Lake Sinclair in middle
Georgia and the part of the lake I fish has extremely clear water - the bass
are finicky and a natural presentation is important. I use fluorocarbon
line and fish senko type baits rigged whacky style (hooked in the middle of
the bait). I'm a catch and release fisherman and absolutely hate to injure
a fish by gut hooking them. The circle hooks make injuring the bass much
less likely. Even if they take the hook deep the circle design is easier to
remove without seriously harming the fish. I wish everyone would use
circle hooks when fishing soft plastics. The hook-up ratio is probably
slightly lower than when using a standard shank hook but once you get use to
just reeling down instead of "setting" the hook they work just fine and
almost always hook the fish in the side of the jaw as designed.
I've primarily used Gamakatsu Octopus hooks until now but am looking forward
to trying out your hooks once they arrive.
