I surf fish the Texas coast. My normal set up is 4 rods, two heavy surf rods with 30
or 40 pound test line for bull redfish, black drum, sharks, ect. And two light
spinning rods for bait and smaller fish for the frying pan, like whiting, croaker
and pompano. I use 10/0 to 14/0 circle hooks on the heavy rods and #2 or #4 circle
hooks on the light rods. I like fishing circle hooks because the fish hook
themselves when the rods are in the rod holders, they are mostly lip hooked making
for easy unhooking if I want to release the fish, and if the big fish come in close
and crash the small baits these little circle hooks will handle a 36 inch redfish or
black drum.
I have attached some pictures for you. All of these fish were caught on light
spinning rods using #4 circle hooks.
