Mustad Red Slow Death Hooks - The Pro's Secret
A Perspective on Perfection
by Gary Parsons

In the mid-90s a close group of walleye pros were generating tremendous results with a new technique called slow death. Incredible action was being added to live-bait presentations by bending hooks in a certain fashion. I knew it was something special, but because I couldn't master the precise hook bend, I was getting really inconsistent results. Working with the Mustad product development team, Keith and I spend countless hours testing hook bends until we perfected a hook design that anybody could rig effectively.

Well I have a bait shop here in Richmond I have guys looking for these hooks they
make a rig with a leader and a red bead with a swivel and we cannot find them at a
good price so I figured I'd make some up for a better price they are drop shot
rigging them with a night crawler and they are shredding the walleye like crazy
these are one really hot Walleye catching setup so hope that helps I sent a picture
of the pre rigged ones

I use the slow death hooks a lot for walleye fishing, they work great on them

I just returned from Canada fishing walleyes and normaly we use crawler harnesses
with bottom bouncers. This time we used size 2 slow death hooks on bottom bouncers
with a 3 foot leader and caught hundreds of walleye. The pike like them too.

With the slow death hooks I tie it to a 5ft leader and 2 beads and a macs smile blade and pull
behund a botton bouncer for walleyes or use just plain with no beads
and smile blades

I was actually reading an article about using slow death hooks behind a smiley blade
and some beads trolled behind a bottom bouncer. This combo is supposed to work very
well on walleye that are not very active. The smiley blade can be trolled very slow,
so it triggers the lethargic eyes into hitting.......so they say!!! Our season opens
may 5th and the water is still very cold so I think this might work very well! I
have attached a few walleye photos from this ice fishing season. They are all from
Last Mountain Lake......caught my largest eye ever at 14.1 lbs. I Ended up with 14
over 10lbs this year and 9 of them were over 12 lbs!!! We use the 1/4 and 3/8 oz
glow perch buckshot spoons by Northlands.
